Silicone rings are a favourite for active, hands-on life, but every so often someone notices redness or a "ring rash." It's almost never an allergy, and it's easy to head off. Here's what's going on.
Is silicone hypoallergenic?
Yes. Our silicone wedding rings use medical-grade, skin-safe silicone, the same broad family of material as medical devices. Actual silicone allergies are very rare. If you react to metals, silicone (like titanium) is about the safest thing you can put on your finger.
So what's the rash?
Trapped moisture, not the material itself. Silicone doesn't absorb water, but it will hold sweat and soap against your skin. Warmth plus a little friction does the rest. It's the same thing that happens to skin under a plaster. Sort the moisture and it clears.
How to avoid it
- Dry off after sweating. Rinse after a workout, then dry underneath the ring.
- Give your skin a breather. Slip it off now and then, especially after a shower or the washing-up.
- Wash it weekly. Soap and water clears trapped oils and bacteria.

Cleaning it
