The problem with metal on site
Two things. A metal ring can catch on machinery, scaffolding or a ladder and take your finger with it, the injury surgeons call ring avulsion. And most metals conduct, which is the last thing you want near a live circuit. For sparkies that second point is non-negotiable.
Why electricians go silicone
A silicone wedding ring deals with both. It doesn't conduct, so no current, and it gives way at far lower force than metal, releasing before your finger takes the load. Off site, and for trades with no live-electrical risk, a durable metal band is a fine daily driver. Tungsten is close to scratch-proof and titanium is light and tough. Just don't wear metal around live electrics or heavy machinery where a snag is on the cards. That's silicone's job.
